Rough, Tough & Tumble

Do I sound like a washing machine? Haha... ok what a way to start off after not blogging for more than a month right?

I have to confess that life isn't always good news. It's coming to a month and I'm still in my predicament. Weather forecast for today? Partly cloudy with showers over minor areas.

It's really the eye of the storm and I'm apparently floating through it. Oh well, at least there's more stability & quietness in the home.

Anyway! Good news bears come! For all who haven't heard, I'll be starting my part-time studies in social work at NUS coming August! Yes, it's exciting and yes, especially when I've collected my student card! The first use for it came when Qing, my mum & I went to watch The Dark Knight. Student price babe! Gosh it's been a while... haha!

Before actual term begins, I've got to prepare for the DET - Diagnostic English Test. Two and a half hours to prove that my English is decent. 1st Aug. Please pray for me.

My colleague asked me if I ever imagined owning a NUS student card. The question reminded me of how far & how much God has brought me through. My answer was no. When I started out in JC, I dreamed of going to NUS. Which was funny because I never really do well academically so I kind of knew the local university wasn't for me but what a turn of events. I thank God for another new day. A new phase. A new moment to remember. Praise God for the new!

Standing for Change

Alas! I'm back from Church camp, Graduation, Celebrating my 23rd Birthday, Carrying on with work & Awaiting part-time studies@NUS!

Church camp
One word. Awesome! I really want to thank God for the best of everything through the time in Thailand - from Bangkok to Chaam. He gave me my best friend & traveling buddy/roomie! He gave us the best & most memorable experiences on the streets of Bangkok & adventures in Chaam/HuaHin. The best train ride adventure (and many more to come! *wink*). Blessed with wonderful Cellies, good breakfast food & hotel room! We were blessed with wonderful a Trinitarian family to fellowship with & just have fun! We were so blessed by Ps David Doery & Ps Ong Sek Liang. Blessed with meeting & making new friendships. Blessed with arising early to catch Thailand's beautiful sunrise & swim in warm waters!

Would I do it again? Gosh. In a heartbeat!

Graduation
My mum's finally graduated from bible school! *applause applause* Am so proud of her. She managed to persevere through 2 years of study! Think this was the first graduation I attended that gave out Batons as graduation diploma's during the ceremony. They were driving home the point of carrying on the good work even after leaving Rhema. Of course my mum received her formal grad cert after.

Turning 23
Thank you to all who blessed me with their love! Your smses, emails, celebrations, facebook wall notes, cards always brings warmth to my heart. Made a few grounding wishes for everyone & myself. For everyone, I wish that you may a new joy & love in all you do. May each day but full of purpose & fulfillment that God has placed on your heart! A personal wish this year is to stand for change. There are a couple of things I've let slip by the wayside & forgot to shine light in those areas of darkness so this year is going to be different. There will be change, in my life, my perspective, my values.

Work
I thank God for my colleagues who are so understanding & such committed & wonderful people. Work isn't just work with them & the kids around. Oh ya... did my first training last Sat. Was quite an experience! Thank God it went quite smoothly haha! This Sat we're bringing the d'Klub kids to the zoo! Some Trinitarians from the same cell decided to 'Care & Connect' with our d'Klub kids! Pray for great weather & am sure the children will have a great time!

Oh yea... there's a group of Hwa Chong boys who have been volunteering with us the past holiday. One of them is like a Rubics Cube pro! He taught me how to solve the cube! Yays! Haha. Ok not that I was slacking during work ok... it was during the kids, nap time... :P

Tmr the Carehut kids are going on a whole new level of outing... well, at least for Stamford carehut. We're going to take the bus! As in the public bus to the outing venues. Can't imagine marching 30 kids down the road to the bus stop & seeing each one up & down the bus haha! Anyway... God be with us!

Awaiting Part-time Study@NUS
Yup. I've been accepted into NUS to do a part-time Grad Dip in Social Work! Feeling a little uncertain but in general I'm really thankful! Praying for God's favour in areas of finance & academics. Heard from an intern @ CCSS that it's really theoretical (which is normally not my cup of tea, I'm more of a Kinesthetic learner rather than Analytical). Oh wells. It's in your hands, Lord.

Have a blessed week!

What's up with the Weather?

By golly it's HOT! Past few days it's been like a sauna! And yes. By golly! I'm back blogging again haha! High time I did it right? So! It's MAY!! And what's in MAY? CHURCH CAMP!!! We're doing the count down man.

26 Days to camp!

I would do the countdown timer thingy and add it here but I don't know how. Haha anyway!

I can only remember as far back as Labour Day. So we'll start from there.

Labour Day.
AM: Went for worship practice. Friend of mine invited me to jam with his church worship team as well as play for their upcoming Healing service. Was quite an experience coz the worship leader really knows what he's doing & which direction he wants to take the worship. Which is basically Up.

PM: Had Bak Kut Teh lunch with them after a long practice. Pretty good bak kut teh. Nearby Tan Boon Liat building. Will get the exact location another time.

Later PM: Initial plan was to go for a swim. Sun was hot hot up & the sounds of water splashing in the pool were tempting. Went online to clear some mail & decided to chat with my cousin! Which led to Later later PM plans.

Later Later PM: After a good arvo nap, picked up my cousins to go catch Iron Man @ AMK Hub! We had Mos Burger to go, standing outside a learning centre eating. I wonder why I end up doing weird things when I'm with the 2. =P The movie, I must say was entertaining. The graphics & effects were really good. On a whole had a good laugh with Robert Downey Jnr's sarcastic bravado high-tech heroism & Gwyneth Paltrow's stiletto heels indifference but felt it was rather anti-climax at the very end.

Something dramatic happened at the end of the day though. We were walking back to the car & suddenly a mini-fight broke out right in front of me in the carpark! My natural reaction was to quickly get into the safety of my car & wait for my cousins to get in. Why didn't I drive away quickly? Well... they are my cousins after all. I can't just leave them there. It's too dangerous!
The fight lasted for about 5mins. I've got pictures from within the driver's seat to prove it. Quality is another matter.

Introducing Dumb & Dumber. They take turns squishing each other against the window. Haha ok I shall not be mean. My cousins. And the lady in red is Jie Yi. The other lady in what may seem like white but is actually light blue is Jie Min. If you haven't got it by now. My cousins were the ones fighting. Fighting for what? The very coveted Front seat. So there you go. Come to think of it they forgot to clean the windows for me. Their face imprints are all over it.

And in a fight, the youngest always wins. The older just had to give way. We went to Gardens for sour New York Cheesecake@Cartel & Harto ice-cream to compensate the cake. Pictures complimentary from Jie Yi.

Basically think that's the highlight of the week. Oh ya... we had like a games day thing @ office too. That was really tiring but fun! Due to the highly vigorous workout we had. My colleague & I actually went back to school to bathe. Gosh that was hilarious. All our carehut kids couldn't believe we, the teachers, would want to bathe in the school when they highly disliked it. Especially the older students. Just a bit of background. We constantly have this struggle with getting the older students to bathe. They keep giving excuses like, "Oh I forgot to bring clothes. Oh I forgot to bring towel." So when they heard that I only had a small towelette big enough to cover my face & was still gonna bathe, they were in shock. 'Huh?!? Aunty Sarah bathing?!? Sure not!" Muahahaha... The look on their faces was a Kodak moment.

Yup so that about wraps up my update for the day haha! Stay blessed!

The Math Question.

Lately I've been rather 'stressed' with studying for my GRE exam on 13 March (Thurs). Feels like time is passing quick & I'm standing still on one question. One problem sum. One equation. Sighs!

It really brings out my inadequacy in Math. Really need to practice more. So what's my plan? Use every free time I've got to practice. Although saying this, honestly, doesn't necessarily justify faithfully putting it to action. Pray for me!!!! Haha!

Enjoyed cell group last week! Mainly because we had a rather full turn up! Got to see cellies we haven't seen in a while. Reminded me of cell gatherings back in Perth. Think I strongly desire the feeling of warmth & belonging of being in a cell where everyone can share their heart, joys & pain. We had ours @ Macs in Braddell! Miss just hanging out for a meal or even dessert! Haha. It's reminiscing Vibe Canning days of Cott beach, Ciao Italia, Manduring drives, Taurus meals, Freo, Baskin Robin pints. What a difference being back in SG & not being a student anymore.

Thank God my physical tiredness didn't stop me from bringing my cousins out to supper too. Had a gd short time of just chilling with them after cell. It's like @ cell I eat, then go supper also eat. Was quite sorry that they noticed my tiredness. But I thank God for their enthusiasm & the opportunity!

On a lighter note, I'm looking forward to 3 events coming up!
1) Worship Central Conference 2008! Tim Hughes will be here!
Date: 12 April'08
Time: 0900 - 2200
Venue: Faith Methodist Church
Price: S$35 (inc. lunch & materials)

2) Head over Heels Marathon! It's for couples - married & dating!
CCSS is planning it in conjunction with MCYS's 'We're married' convention!
Date: 6 April'08
Time: 0800 - 1100
Venue: Sentosa
It's a big oppportunity for CCSS & we're all quite psyched abt it although planning an event of abt 400 participants in a month is rather daunting. Pray with us that everything will be fantastic!

3) Church Camp'08 @ Chaam, Thailand!!
Date: 2 Jun - 5 Jun'08
Venue: Holiday Inn, Chaam

Am really looking forward to hearing the speakers & best part is I'll be rooming with qing! We've been planning the past 2 nights & think we've got an adventure ahead of us! Haha! Plan to be there earlier on 31 May instead of extending after. Sounds like Amazing Race already!

Weather's been really wet. Where's my bright sunny days & cool breezes?? Rain rain go away, come again another day!

One for the guys

The Strength of a Man

The strength of a man isn't seen in the width of his shoulders.
It's in the width of his arms that encircle you.

The strength of a man isn't in the deep tone of his voice.
It's in the gentle words he whispers.

The strength of a man isn't how many buddies he has.
It's how good a buddy he is with his children.

The strength of a man isn't in how respected he is at work.
It's in how respected he is at home.

The strength of a man isn't in how hard he hits.
It's in how tender he touches.

The strength of a man isn't in the hair on his chest.
It's in his heart, that lies within his chest.

The strength of a man isn't how many women he's loved.
It's in being true to one woman.

The strength of a man isn't in the weight he can lift.
It's in the burdens he can carry.

Updating

Haha ok under instruction, I'm updating. Sorry ok... been busy!!

Ok with the New Year (2008) & the (Chinese)New Year, new new things have taken place. Haha ok don't mind me. It's that time of morning where I could still be sleeping. (I'm sou not a morning person)

A more significant change would be my work week. It's now Tues - Sats coz' I'm doing d'Klub! Which is a mentoring character development programme once a week for P3-4 kids. =) So Tues, Fri, Sat I'm@Stamford, Wed, Thurs I'm@PT.

I actually like the idea of having Mondays off! Sounds very pastoral right? Haha but it's great! Feels like I have more time. Think it's a psychological thing.

Another change is recently (rather 2-3 wks ago) I permed my hair. Nothing significant haha but ya. Decided to have some change. I'm pretty happy with it now especially with the tight curls loosening up. Looks more natural. I like.

Most Happening!! I saw SWITCHFOOT LIVE!!!! @ Max Pavilion. The concert was fantastic!!! Plus! Got to go with Qing, GX, SHELBY!!! & her friend Ben! It was just great. Hard to put down in words. Just wonderful! Haha! I pray Switchfoot will come back to SG again!!

Picked up my new pair of transition spects yesterday!! Oh man talking about yesterday, my dad commanded that I went out to get something new to wear for CNY. So apart from all my errands, I went shopping! Nothing particularly red. Did get a colour splashed dress but not gd enough in matching the red theme of CNY but anyway... My spects are red! The rims at least. Chay!

Hmm... anything else? Think that's basically it. Have a blessed family gathering, pineapple tart bak gua kueh bang cake kueh boh lu kueh zi mandarin orange eating CNY!!
